Stewardship At Eastminster

Stewardship is a way of life, honoring God in everything we do with all His gifts. It is more than a three-week exercise in October when we make monetary pledges for the upcoming year. It is living a God-centered life rather than self-centered life.  The Gospels call us to recognize that everything we have is a gift from God and that those gifts are to be used for his glory to further his kingdom.

Paul writes to Timothy in 1 Timothy Chapter 6 verses 17 to 18 “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.  Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”

As a people who serve God, we do not want to get wrapped up in our wealth. We are all rich. But often in being rich, the more we have the more we want, the more we think we can save our way into security and safety, and the more we chase dreams that we will never quite catch.

Jesus talked about money throughout the Gospels because he knew that money is our chief competitor to God. In our walk to maturing as a Christian, trusting God and giving back to him generously our first fruits or tithe is an important step. Letting go of our financial anxiety and turning our back on the me first culture around us allows us to feel the true freedom that comes through a God-centered life.

The reality is Eastminster needs our giving to operate daily and fulfill our mission here in East Cobb and beyond. Our Covenant Partners’ gifts are the sole source of funding for Eastminster’s budget. We receive no funding from our national denomination or from an anonymous benefactor. Our giving is important to the church, but more than that it is important to our own spiritual lives as a tangible way to honoring God and trusting in his provision.
