This Week At Eastminster: December 16, 2019

Christmas at Eastminster

DURING ADVENT, the children will be learning about sharing and giving. One way for them to remember our less fortunate neighbors it to bring something to put under our “Peanut Butter & Jelly Tree.” The children can always relate to Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches for lunch, but not an empty tummy because there is no food. Help us provide non-perishable donations by having your child bring in a jar of Peanut Butter and Jelly, or any favorite canned or boxed good to put under our tree, located 2nd floor of the Christian Life Center in the Children’s Ministry Hall. Donations will be collected beginning Sunday, December 1 through December 22. Thank you for sharing and Caring. Children’s Ministry.

FAMILY ADVENT WORKSHOP: On Sunday, December 15 at 4PM, parents and children ages 5th grade and younger will gather in the Great Hall as we share the story of the first Christmas. Children will have the opportunity to create their own graham cracker and candy nativity scene in a fun Christmas craft. We will have a basket available the day of the event to accept donations of $3-5 per person.

YOUTH GLOW CAROLS: Glow Carols is a student worship event celebrating the good news of the birth of the Savior! Come to the Youth Room, grab some glow sticks, bracelets, and necklaces and rejoice over the light of Christ! Glow Carols begins at 5PM on Sunday, December 15.

CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES: Join us at one, two or all three of our Christmas Eve Services! Our annual Children’s Pageant begins at 5PM filled with singing by our little ones, our Traditional service at 7PM and our magnificent Candlelight service at 11PM to usher us into Christmas morning.

TROOP 565 CHRISTMAS TREE PICKUP FUNDRAISER: Eastminster’s Boy Scout Troop will be picking up Christmas Trees on December 28 and January 4 as their annual fundraiser. Visit marietta565.mytroop.us for more information and to sign up.

WE WILL HAVE ONE SERVICE titled “Lessons and Carols” on Sunday December 29, at 10AM in the Sanctuary. There will be no Sunday School this day.

CALLING ALL YOUNG (18-20’S) ADULTS! You’re invited to Eastminster’s Young Adult Holiday party on Friday December 20 at 7PM. We’ll be at the Laverty’s Home, please RSVP to Christi, (770-617-2277), for the address.

Matching Challenge

WE, AS COVENANT PARTNERS HAVE BEEN GIVEN A CHALLENGE to dig deep this holiday season and give towards a matching donation above and beyond our regular and pledged financial support. One of our covenant partners has generously pledged to match contributions up to $50,000 to be used towards paying down the church’s mortgage. As you may know, the church mortgage on the Christian Life Center (CLC) is currently $745,500, with a monthly mortgage payment of $6,275. Paying off our mortgage would free up $75,000 annually. Please prayerfully consider how you are being called to give and invest towards Eastminster’s future. You may donate in the same way as your regular church giving but please mark your donation “Mortgage Match” so your gift can be applied toward the matching pledge. Donations for this program must be given to the church office by December 31. Blessings, Andrew Sain and Karen Jones, Stewardship and Finance Elders.

Welcome Basket for Jamie Dick and Family

EASTMINSTER, WE WOULD LOVE TO extend some famous Southern hospitality as we welcome our new Director of Music Ministries, Jamie Dick and his family to the church. A basket of goodies, gift cards, and other “Welcome to East Cobb” items will be presented to them when they arrive in December. Session has approved this request for voluntary donations directly to Jamie Dick and his family. Ideas include: Gift cards from grocery stores, local restaurants, Walmart, Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Ikea, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Also, basic household items: Paper towels, laundry detergent, disinfecting wipes, and other necessities that a family needs when they first move into a new home would be appropriate. There will be a large basket in the church office for donations now through December 22.

Must Ministries

PLEASE REMEMBER to bring your non-perishable items to put in our MUST barrels located in our lobbies. It is getting cold out and we have so many hungry children and families in Cobb County. Diapers and baby foods are also needed.
